As of early this morning, North Dakota had 126 positive cases - Ramsey county has remained at a total of 3 so far. There's 21 people hospitalized, while the rest are quarantened and being monitored at home. We've had 3 deaths from the virus with 30 people now officially recovered from it.

Please limit your travel as much as you can! People are at home now, and literally have a “month of Sundays” to do some projects, and that’s okay, but please limit your trips to the stores. Plan for a week or so, make a list of things you need, and make one trip. Do not take the kids with on your trips to the stores - the less people we have moving around, the better.

In the rest of the country:  The United States has now recorded more cases of infection than any other country; as of this morning the number was at 190,000. New York is the hardest hit with around 76,000 cases.

The University of Washington did a state-by-state projection of when the peak resources in each state will be needed - in North Dakota, we’re going to reach that peak on April 25th. The good news in that study is that we probably won’t exceed our medical resources here, but that could change.  What we do this week will make a huge difference at that time.

If you start to feel symptoms such as a sore throat, a fever, a deep, dry cough or difficulty breathing, stay home and stay away from everyone else! Before you go a hospital or clinic, call this number: 701-780-6358. This is a 24-hour hotline that will give you instructions on what to do.

DO NOT SHOW UP TO THE E-R WITHOUT CALLING THIS NUMBER OR AT LEAST CALLING AHEAD - THERE HAS TO BE SOME PRECAUTIONS TAKEN UPON ARRIVAL.

What we need to do is slow down the rate of infection. That’s why we need to all work together to do this. You may be young and healthy and not concerned about catching it, but you can carry it, and give it to someone else. By protecting yourself, you are protecting everyone else!

1. Wash your hands often, with soap, for about 20 seconds each time. Hand sanitizer will work, too, but  not as good as washing with soap.
2. Try to avoid touching your face (that’s very difficult, but try….)
3. Also try to avoid crowded places.
4. Act as though you are already infected.  Mind all the surfaces you tough, and cough or sneeze into a  tissue or your elbow.
5. Avoid any unnecessary travel. This is how the virus spread in the first place.

This virus is especially hard on elderly people, so please use extra caution around them.  Call your elderly family and friends and check up on them. (They’d love to hear from you anyway!)

Reassure kids that everything will be alright.  Because, it will be. This isn’t the end of the world, and we’ll get through this.

If you’re healthy, there’s really no reason to wear a mask (it really won’t do anything), but if you’re feeling sick or showing any symptoms of anything, you should cover your mouth in public.

Purchase what you need…and remember, your friends and neighbors also need those things.  Regular supply systems for grocery stores are still functioning as they always have, so supplies are coming in just fine.

Many of our local merchants are taking steps to keep you safe, and still bring you the services you need…there’s a lot of restaurants that are offering takeout service, pre-packaged meals, and even curbside service to limit everyone’s exposure. Economically, this is going to be a difficult time for everyone, and now more than ever, your local, hometown merchants appreciate your support.
